If a 3-yd did yield yard?
When renting dumpsters, whether for residential, commercial or construction site use, it is imperative that you understand just how much waste each container actually holds. Even repeat customers have either under- or over-estimated their needs from time to time, costing them time and money. Because paying for a half-filled dumpster, or for extra dumps, makes little sense, taking the time to simply measure out your needs will help you approach your project much more intelligently.
Rather than taking your chances and hoping for the best, keep in mind these capacity guidelines:
- Two and three yard dumpsters – Good for spring cleaning and small moving projects, these small-sized bins are what you would generally find in alleyways and small businesses with lesser amounts of waste. You can expect for it to hold about a small bedroom’s worth of junk. Think bigger if cleaning out a household of junk.
- Eight to ten yard dumpsters – Better for small remodeling projects that don’t require a lot of demolition. Expect to fit in about a small bathroom’s amount of tiling and drywall. Avoid loading heavier items like sinks and toilets into eight yard and smaller dumpsters if you are also loading ceramic or porcelain tile. A dumpster that is too heavy is a dumpster that you’ll be climbing into, to remove items, later.
- 20 yard dumpsters – Also referred to as roll-offs, 20 yard dumpsters are good for more extensive home remodels. Decks and flooring under 300 square feet or roof shingles up to 1500 square feet. However, contact your dumpster and waste equipment rental company to double-check just what construction materials are okay to include.
- 30 yard dumpsters – Generally used for home demolition and commercial companies, 30 yard roll-offs hold approximately 10 pickup trucks full of debris.
- 40 yard dumpsters – Construction and industrial sites are the biggest users of this size. But if you are doing a complete siding removal or roof replacement, a forty yard may work for home construction projects too.
